What Paint Colors will increase Your Home’s Value?

One of the more important aspects of home ownership is understanding the value of your home and how you can increase it over time. Depending on how current you keep its amenities, how well it’s cared for and maintained over the years, and the type of maintenance projects you perform, the value of your home can fluctuate over time. One of the most cost-effective ways to increase its and value is by having it professionally painted by Right Track Painting & Sealcoating.

Believe it or not, there is a correlation between the color of interior and exterior paints chosen and the impact they will have on the value of your home. The following will give you a better idea of the colors to choose and the affect they could have on your home’s value as well as its curb appeal:

Exterior Colors

Curb appeal can have a positive impact on a home’s market value. Obviously, your home’s exterior is the first thing prospective buyer’s notice when shopping for a home. Homes painted in a blend of grey and beige or “geige” as it is referred to, sold for up to $3,000 higher than other similar homes. Furthermore, homes that have front doors painted in a darker bluish tone commanded a higher selling price. This supports the theory that prospective buyers prefer neutral tones with pops of color throughout.

Interior Colors

When it comes to interior living spaces, painting each room a different color tends to work best. For example, blue tones tend to work best in bathrooms, bedrooms, and kitchens. This is most likely due to the calming effect that blues have on the brain. However, you should vary those blue shades from room to room. Slate blue was the #1 preference for dining areas. Consequently, homes with slate blue dining areas sold for up to $2,000 more than homes with different colored dining areas. Thus, the fact is that colors do make a different in pricing so if you are thinking about off-beat colors, think again.

Prospective home buyers tend to look for kitchens painted in softer grey-blue tones. Interestingly enough, homes with periwinkle painted bathrooms sold for nearly $5,500 more while homes with bedrooms painted in a light cerulean blue sold for nearly $2,000. Neutral browns were the top preference for great rooms and living rooms while homes with light beige living room walls sold for nearly $2,000 more. If, for some reason, a full re-paint of the interior isn’t feasible, consider those rooms that are the most out of date.
