Trending Colors for Interior and Exterior Painting
The best way to give home interiors and exteriors a cosmetic, cost-effective makeover is by applying a fresh coat of paint. However, you’ll need to research multiple color samples and be aware of the current painting trends for this year. According to a December 2020 Homes and Gardens article, “rock gray” and “sunshine yellow” was awarded the status of colors of the year for home interiors by Pantone, LLC, the global authority on paint colors and the creators of the Pantone Matching System.
Aesthetically, speaking, this dual paint combination depicts the characteristics of both reliability and strength combined with the joy of future sunshine-filled days. Interestingly enough, it is only the second that they have been so bold as to suggest naming two different shades as paint colors of the year. As Pantone’s executive director Leatrice Eiseman stated, “This color combination provides hope and resilience. It is optimistic and warm, yet practical and rock solid.”
Thus, what are the best colors to use on your home’s exterior? We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – certain home exterior colors are always in style. You’ll see these colors lining every block throughout every neighborhood in the greater Boston and MetroWest areas. They have consistently held an aesthetic appeal and will continue to do so for many years to come. The following three colors will always be trending due to their broad appeal making them excellent choices for homeowners and renters:
- Beige or cream – any off-white hue offers many of the same benefits a pure white (see below). They make small homes look larger while projecting a cleaner, unspoiled look. These earthy colors add warmth and can make any home look more inviting.
- Gray – gray has always been jockeying for 1st place with white as one of the most popular colors for home exteriors. Furthermore, minimalist design trends have caused an uptick in the popularity of different gray hues. In addition to using gray as the primary color for your exterior, you can also use it as a shutter and trim accent.
- White – we’d be willing to bet that it won’t take very long to find a home painted white when driving around your neighborhood. That’s because white is by far the most common color chosen for home exteriors. In fact, it is the most recommended exterior color by 52% of all home improvement experts. White gives a nice and clean look to the house although exterior cleaning becomes important.
